Jane Isabella Pairo Holmead diary, 1828-1855 (bulk 1828-1836).

This diary documents activities related to the life of Jane Isabella Pairo [Holmead] in Washington, D.C., between June 3, 1828, and 1855. The buIk of the diary relates to events of 1828-1836. Entries describe hearing lectures, riding horseback, and walking in the woods or to Georgetown, picking berries and flowers, going to several different churches, and celebrating Christmas. Includes poems and prayers. Trips and visits are described, and many names of family and friends are mentioned, including Harriet Woodworth, David Davidson, Hellen Davis, Joseph Stettinius, Catherine Jones, John Stettinius, Julia Stettinius, Emma Stansbury, Emily Chisolm, Jane Holmead, Charlotte Otto. Others, such as Sophie, are mentioned frequently by first name only. These may be siblings or other family members. "Father" and "mother" are also mentioned. Jane's last entry in her diary is a mention of her marriage to John B. Holmead in October 12,1830, and of her first two children, Sophia Emily and Charles Henry. A final entry, in another handwriting and dated 1855, provides Jane Isabella Pairo Holmead's birth, marriage and death dates and a list of the birthdates of her children.
